500+ CEAT Students and Orgs Endorse KABATAAN Partylist and Senatorial Candidates

Updated: May 17, 2022

The College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology Student Council and the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology Freshman Council, together with some CEAT organizations, is officially endorsing the following senatorial candidates and partylist:

For Senator: #4 Teddy Baguilat For Senator: #16 Neri Colmenares For Senator: #18 Leila de Lima For Senator: #21 Atty. Chel Diokno For Senator: #34 Senator Risa Hontiveros For Senator: #37 Elmer "Ka Bong" Labog For Senator: #38 Alex Lacson For Senator: #45 Sonny G Matula For Senator: #63 Carmen Reyes Zubiaga

The endorsement ensures a democratic and representative voice of the UPLB studentry, as manifested by the recent UPVote 2022 National Mock Elections. In the mock elections, the above-mentioned senatorial candidates and partylist received the highest votes from the 1,712 respondents. This mock election result is strengthened with the approval of Resolution No. 2022-07 of the 52nd Convention of the General Assembly of StudenTt Councils which endorses Kabataan Partylist’s youth and people’s agenda. Moreover, the 5th UPLB Student Legislative Chamber, Resolution 2022 - 03 strengthened the UPVote senatorial mock election results, which endorses the above-mentioned senatorial candidates.

The endorsed senatorial candidates and the partylist are deemed in harmony with the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem in advancing the rights of the Filipino people. Last April 20, CEAT SC together with a number of CEAT organizations endorsed the candidacy of Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan for the presidential and vice presidential positions, respectively. Chel Diokno, Risa Hontiveros, Leila De Lima, Teddy Baguilat, Sonny Matula, and Alex Lacson are members of the TRoPang Angat senatorial slate of Robredo-Pangilinan whose works and advocacies align with the All-Student Council's Assembly (ASCA) in advocating for students’ and peoples’ rights and welfare. Neri Colmenares, Abogado ng Masa, and Elmer Labog, Lider-manggagawa, have long stood with the masses in promoting their rights and welfare. Carmen Zubiaga represents the long underprioritized sector of persons of disability and has long advocated gender equality, disability rights, and social inclusion. Furthermore, the Kabataan Partylist has long been the sole and genuine representative of the youth and the students and has been forwarding bills and resolutions beneficial to the youth and the Filipino people in general.

This coming 2022 national elections, a number of senatorial candidates with insufficient track record and regressive platforms vie for power. Candidates with illegal cases, authors and co-authors of anti-people bills, and enablers will be using their fame and power to take advantage of miseducation and misinformation in order to grab hold of power in our government.

The CEAT Student Council is one with the calls against such personalities, and in promoting a change in our government system. As future engineers of the nation, one who knows the importance of a proper and stable foundation in building physical structures, we must initiate voting for proper candidates in our government in order to build strong and stable democracies. We urge different organizations and formations to take part in voter education and in proper information dissemination among the people, for a more fair, honest, and democratic national election. Lastly, let us continue to use our platforms and exhaust all our means to promote and support these candidates.
