Justice for Negros 14!

Official statement of the CEAT Student Council on the 3rd Death Anniversary of the Negros 14

Justice for Negros 14!

๐™๐™’: ๐˜ฟ๐™š๐™–๐™ฉ๐™

On this day, March 30, the CEAT Student Council commemorates the death of 14 farmers during a police operation three years ago in Negros Oriental. The police claimed the killed farmers as alleged members of the New Peopleโ€™s Army (NPA). Still, human rights and farmersโ€™ groups believed they were mere activists and leaders of local peasant organizations red-tagged by the government for the longest time.

The killing of the Negros 14 further exposed the pattern of the Duterte administration when silencing activists: they will conduct police operations in places they suspect to be NPA hideouts, involve innocent civilians by claiming they possess illegal firearms and explosives, and then make up stories of resistance to justify killing them. The pattern never gets lost in translation. It only gets worse, never remedied.

The CEAT Student Council demands justice to the victims of unjustified killings under the Duterte administration. We demand justice for the Negros 14!
